Open and social

"I came in contact with NextGen through LinkedIn, and the introductory meeting I then had with Menno and Frank was the deciding factor in my choosing NextGen. The conversation was very open, very social. I felt very at ease."

"Then I had two job interviews at Darling Ingredients. Both times I was called afterwards by Menno: how did it go, what did you think, were you able to answer your questions? Very nice to evaluate with someone who knows about it. If you have just graduated, it is not always easy to get into a company. NextGen's guidance gave me some security at the beginning of my career.

"I work at the headquarters in Son. Darling Ingredients has several plants worldwide and at each plant process engineers work on process improvement and what we call 'day to day problems.' My job is to support them and promote synergy between all locations, because the technology we apply at one plant can also be useful for other plants."

Reflecting on your social skills

"After I was hired at Darling Ingredients, I started attending NextGen's Next Level program. The training days were a great opportunity to reflect on my own social skills, something that wasn't really addressed enough within my Master's degree in Chemical Process Technology.

How decisive your first impression actually is on others and what roles people often unconsciously assume in conversations: all parts of my daily work that sometimes have a bigger impact than you think."

Team effort

"What I learned most of all is the importance of communicating well within a professional environment. People who have worked here for twenty or thirty years are used to a process going a certain way. Then you come and tell them as a rookie that things have to be different. How do you handle that? I got a lot of advice from NextGen: go there yourself, show your face and prepare well. Try to come out effectively together. In the end, I can't do it without my colleagues: process optimization is a team effort."
