Growth story
Jelle Hahn

You notice that they really pay attention to you and then you feel appreciated

Jelle started via NextGen as a Process Engineer at Scania, a leading supplier in transport solutions, and is now Assembly Supervisor. We sat down with him to discuss: what has he learned? What steps did he take to grow from Process Engineer to Supervisor? And what was NextGen's role in that?

The first contact

Having already worked in logistics for several years, I came in contact with NextGen - through LinkedIn actually. I did often get messages on LinkedIn from other agencies, only this message was different and caught my interest. Then I had an interview with Machiel in Dalfsen. I liked that. That I immediately had personal contact with one of the owners.

It was a very good and open conversation in which we looked together at what possibilities there were for me. Then we ended up at Scania, where I could start working as a Process Engineer.

"When I look at my own development, I have made huge strides. NextGen has brought me a lot in that and made me see what I am capable of."

From Process Engineer to Supervisor

In the beginning I was mainly involved in project management of the smaller improvement projects. Both for Paint Shop and in the area of Assembly. This was a great way to start at Scania, as it allowed me to get to know the plant well right away.

At some point the new building project came up: the construction of the new factory in Meppel. They were still looking for a project manager. I didn't really know anything about architecture, but I did know something about project management. It seemed like an interesting, large and challenging project. So I grabbed this opportunity with both hands.

Now I am Supervisor of Assembly. Simply explained: we as the Assembly Department add bolts, nuts, levers or other extra things to the Paint Shop painted parts and assemble this into semi-finished products. So the factories in Zwolle, France and Sweden can put the parts we have prepared on the trucks in no time. And I am partly responsible for keeping this department running. Continuously making both top-down and bottom-up decisions and moving the department forward. One of the ways I do this is by coaching employees and team leaders. That is what I like best about my job. Working with people, helping them further in their development and at the same time developing the department.

What NextGen has brought

When I look at my own development, I have made enormous strides. NextGen has brought me a lot in that and made me realize what I am capable of. I used to be very quiet, cautious and less outspoken. Now I am more self-assured and express myself more. But perhaps most importantly, I have also become much more self-aware.

I found out what I really enjoy most. Previously, I was always convinced that I was into analysis, spreadsheets and data. But along the way I discovered (among other things) through the PPO training courses that I enjoy working with people much more. That is what gives me the most energy. This is how I ended up in my position as Supervisor, where I work with people for about 80%. I'm really proud of that as well. That I grew into this role.
